What do first-time climbers need to know?
Everyone who enters signs a waiver, including people who only watch, and you can sign it online before you arrive. Climbers must be at least 3 years old, and anyone under 14 needs an adult with them unless they are in a class. Climbing shoes are required. There are no auto-belays, so roped climbing takes a partner who has passed the gym's belay test; instruction and the test are free.
- Bouldering needs no partner or harness, just shoes. It is the easiest way to try climbing on a day pass.
- Top rope needs a partner using an assisted-braking belay device such as a GriGri.
- Lead climbing needs both climbers to pass a lead test. The Learn to Lead course is three classes for climbers 14 and up with six months of experience.
- Showers: three, with body wash and towels, for pass holders and members.
Does Contact Climbing Gym have kids programs?
Yes. Year-round youth teams start with recreation teams for ages 8 to 12 and 13 to 18, at $90 a month for one day a week or $170 for two, with rentals included; select and performance teams are for certified climbers. Birthday parties are $250 for up to 10 climbers age 6 and up, on weekends from noon to 2 p.m. Summer camp for ages 6 to 13 has finished for 2026.
What else is at the gym?
Yoga Via runs daily drop-in classes, first come, first served: vinyasa, Yin, hatha, yogalates, yoga with weights, acro and more, some of them heated. Classes are included with a day pass or membership, or you can buy a yoga-only membership. The studio also runs 200- and 300-hour Yoga Alliance teacher trainings.
Climbing clubs are free with entry: bouldering on Tuesday, lead on Wednesday and top rope on Thursday, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Contact Strength fitness classes run Monday and Wednesday evenings with six spots each. Groups of climbers can book a two-hour staff-guided session from $24 a person, two weeks ahead.
