Editorial Policy and How We Check Listings
Last updated October 11, 2026
This page explains who runs St. George Word of Mouth (SGWOM), how business listings get on the site and get checked, where the facts in our guides and news come from, how sponsorship works, and how to tell us when something is wrong.
Who runs SGWOM
St. George Word of Mouth is a local guide to Southern Utah: businesses, events, news and things to do in St. George, Hurricane, Cedar City, Washington, Ivins, Santa Clara and nearby towns. It is owned by Intimidator Marketing and Notice Me Marketing and Media. You can reach the team through the contact page or at [email protected].
How listings are added
- Business owners can submit a listing with the Add Your Business form or by email. We also add businesses we write about in guides and news.
- Before a listing goes live, we compare its name, address, phone number, website and hours with the business's own website or its Google Business Profile.
- Listings that pass that check show a checkmark and a "Last checked" date, so you can see how recent the information is. When we recheck a listing and a detail has changed, we update it and the date.
- When a business closes, its page is marked as permanently closed rather than left looking open.
- We do not visit businesses in person, and we do not check licenses, insurance or bar or medical credentials. For licensed trades and professions, use the state's own lookups, such as the Utah Division of Professional Licensing or the Utah State Bar.
Where the facts in our guides and news come from
Addresses, hours, prices and dates come from the business, venue or organizer itself: its website, its Google Business Profile, or an official city, county, state or park page. Many guides list their sources at the bottom of the page. When we quote a rating or a review count, we say where it came from and when we looked. We don't describe a business as the "best" or "award-winning" unless the award or ranking can be checked, and we name who gave it. When we can't confirm something, we leave it out.
Sponsored and featured listings
SGWOM is paid for by advertising. Some businesses pay for featured placement on the homepage, on category pages and in our news posts. Their listings carry a "Featured" label, and sponsor mentions in news posts are marked as sponsors. Paying for placement does not change how a listing's details are checked. Details on sponsorship are on the advertise page.
Corrections
If a listing, guide or news post has something wrong (a closed business, an old phone number, wrong hours, a wrong date), email [email protected] or use the contact page. Please include the page address and what should change. We check the correction against the business's or organizer's own source, fix the page, and update its date. Business owners can ask us to update or remove their own listing the same way.
