Frontier Homestead State Park Museum at a glance

Frontier Homestead State Park Museum is Utah's state park museum of the Iron Mission, the 1851 settlement sent to Coal Creek to make iron that founded Cedar City. Hours

• April to September: Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.


• October to March: Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday


• Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day

Admission

$4 per person (Visit Cedar City lists the fee as ages 6 and up). An annual pass is sold at the museum; its price is not published online. No child, senior or group rate is listed on the state park fee page.

What is there

• Horse-drawn vehicles used from 1850 to 1920 and pioneer artifacts


• Iron industry exhibit, including the town bell from the original foundry, and a replica blast furnace


• Native Heritage exhibit


• Sawmill, outdoor horse-drawn farm equipment, the George Wood cabin and the Hunter House


• Hands-on pioneer cabin, 19th-century printing press and loom; an audio tour with almost 60 stops


• Picnic tables, drinking water, restrooms and rentable venues

Events

The park's regular programs are Sheep-to-Shawl in March, Iron Mission Days around Cedar City's November 11 birthday and holiday events in December, plus summer hands-on days. Check the park's events page or call (435) 586-9290 for dates.
