Where is Milt's Stage Stop?

Milt's Stage Stop is at 3560 E Highway 14, about 5 miles up Cedar Canyon from Cedar City, Utah; the restaurant calls it a 10-minute drive from town. It is a steak and seafood dinner house that has served diners in the canyon since 1956, and it is open every day from 5 to 9 p.m. Call (435) 586-9344 before you drive up.

What's on the Menu

Every dinner comes with the salad bar, a side and rolls. Prime rib is the house specialty, cut 10, 12 or 16 ounces ($40, $46, $58 on the September 2026 menu) and cooked in a limited amount each day, so it can sell out. The menu also has a ribeye ($45), filet mignon, New York strip, dry-aged Dry Lakes Ranch beef raised in Southern Utah (market price), lamb chops, jumbo shrimp, orange roughy, ahi tuna, salmon, king crab and lobster. There are senior (65 and older) and children's (12 and under) menus, beer, wine and liquor on request, and a set menu for groups of 15 or more.

History

Swiss-born chef Walt Wolfinger, who had cooked at the Brown Derby in Hollywood and the Stardust in Las Vegas, opened Milt's in 1956. Rusty Aiken started there as a dishwasher, took over the lease with his wife Kim in the early 1980s and later opened Rusty's Ranch House at the mouth of the canyon. In 2017 the Aikens sold Milt's to their son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Lacy, according to the restaurant's own history. Diners heading to Brian Head, Duck Creek Village or Cedar Breaks pass it on the way up Highway 14.
