Longarm quilting

Longarm quilting is the step that finishes a quilt, and it is the step most quilters cannot do at home. A pieced quilt top, batting, and backing have to be joined with stitching across the entire surface, and doing that on a domestic machine means wrestling a large, heavy assembly through a small throat space. A longarm machine mounts the layers on a frame and moves the sewing head across them instead, which makes even large quilts manageable and produces consistent stitch quality edge to edge.
