What Is Bryce Canyon National Park?

Bryce Canyon National Park is a parks business located in Bryce Canyon City, Utah, serving St. George, Cedar City, Hurricane. Bryce Canyon National Park in Southern Utah features the world's largest collection of hoodoos — towering red rock spires — along with scenic overlooks, hiking trails, and dark sky stargazing.

Bryce Canyon National Park — A World of Hoodoos

Bryce Canyon National Park is one of the most visually stunning landscapes on Earth. Located in southwestern Utah approximately 2.5 hours northeast of St. George, the park protects the largest collection of hoodoos — irregularly shaped pillars of rock carved by millions of years of frost weathering and erosion — found anywhere in the world. The park's amphitheaters of crimson, orange, and white rock formations create a surreal landscape unlike any other destination in the American Southwest.

Must-Do Hikes & Activities

The Navajo Loop Trail (1.3 miles) descends into the canyon among towering hoodoos and through the narrow Wall Street section — one of the most photographed trails in Utah. Combine it with the Queens Garden Trail for the 2.9-mile Queens Garden/Navajo Loop combination, widely considered the park's best hike. For panoramic views, drive the 18-mile scenic road with 13 viewpoints including Sunset Point, Inspiration Point, and Rainbow Point. Bryce Canyon is also a certified International Dark Sky Park, offering some of the best stargazing in North America during ranger-led astronomy programs.

Planning Your Visit From St. George

Bryce Canyon is about 2.5 hours from St. George via I-15 and Highway 89. The park entrance fee is $35 per vehicle (valid 7 days). The park operates a free shuttle during peak summer months. Elevation ranges from 8,000 to 9,100 feet, so temperatures are significantly cooler than St. George — pack layers even in summer. Many visitors combine Bryce Canyon with stops at Red Canyon (free, along Highway 12) and Kodachrome Basin State Park for a full Southern Utah road trip experience.
