Frisco Ghost Town — Utah's Wild West Mining Town

Frisco, Utah is one of the most atmospheric ghost towns in the American West, located in remote Beaver County about 90 minutes north of Cedar City. Once a booming silver mining town in the 1870s-1880s with a population of over 6,000, Frisco was known as one of the wildest and most lawless towns in Utah Territory. Today, its remarkably well-preserved ruins offer a window into the raw energy of the Old West mining frontier.

What to See at Frisco

The most impressive features are the five beehive-shaped charcoal kilns that stand in a row like sentinels from another era. Built of stone and still largely intact, these kilns produced charcoal to fuel the nearby Horn Silver Mine smelter. Scattered across the sagebrush landscape you will find stone foundations of buildings, mine tailings, collapsed structures, and remnants of what was once a thriving town with saloons, a jail, boarding houses, and a Wells Fargo office. The Horn Silver Mine headframe and surrounding mine ruins are also visible.

Planning Your Visit

Frisco is located along Highway 21 west of Milford, Utah. The site is on public BLM land with free access but no facilities, restrooms, or water. Bring supplies and be prepared for remote desert conditions. The drive from Cedar City takes approximately 90 minutes through scenic Great Basin desert landscape. Frisco pairs well with a visit to nearby Wah Wah Mountains and makes an unforgettable day trip for ghost town enthusiasts, photographers, and history buffs exploring beyond Southern Utah's more famous national parks.
