Pioneer Park is one of the most popular outdoor recreation areas in St. George, Utah, located right in the heart of the city at the north end of Main Street. This 52-acre red sandstone park offers easy-to-moderate hiking trails, fun rock scrambling routes, panoramic views of the St. George valley, and a beautiful desert garden — all just minutes from downtown restaurants and shopping.



Trails & Activities


The park features several interconnected trails winding through and over massive red sandstone formations. The main loop trail is about 1.5 miles and passes through narrow rock corridors, across slickrock surfaces, and up to multiple scenic overlooks with views of the Pine Valley Mountains, Red Cliffs, and downtown St. George. Rock scramblers and kids love exploring the crevices and climbing the sandstone boulders. The adjacent Red Hills Desert Garden is a free botanical garden showcasing over 5,000 desert-adapted plants along a beautifully landscaped walking path with interpretive signs — perfect for a relaxing morning stroll.



Visiting Pioneer Park


Pioneer Park is located at the top of Red Hills Parkway (100 North) in St. George. Parking is free in the large lot at the park entrance. The park is open from dawn to dusk year-round. There are no entrance fees. Trails are dog-friendly (leash required). Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to visit in summer due to heat. Pioneer Park is frequently listed as one of the top free things to do in St. George and makes an excellent quick outdoor adventure for families, hikers, and photographers. Combine your visit with lunch on nearby Main Street or a walk through the historic downtown district.
