Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane, Utah

Sand Hollow State Park is a 20,000-acre recreation area in Hurricane, Utah, featuring a stunning turquoise reservoir surrounded by red Navajo sandstone and 15,000 acres of sand dunes and desert terrain open for OHV (off-highway vehicle) riding. Located about 15 minutes from St. George, Sand Hollow is one of the most popular year-round outdoor destinations in Southern Utah for water sports, off-roading, camping, and fishing.

The Reservoir: Boating, Swimming & Fishing

Sand Hollow Reservoir spans over 1,300 acres of crystal-clear turquoise water that contrasts dramatically with the surrounding red sandstone. The reservoir is stocked with largemouth bass and bluegill, making it a top fishing destination. Two boat ramps accommodate everything from kayaks and paddleboards to pontoon boats and ski boats. Swimming beaches provide sandy access to the water, and the warm water temperatures (reaching the 80s in summer) make it a favorite escape from the desert heat. Scuba divers also frequent the reservoir for its remarkable underwater visibility.

Sand Dunes & OHV Riding

The Sand Hollow OHV area spans over 15,000 acres of red sand dunes and slickrock terrain, attracting riders on ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes, and Jeeps from across the region. The terrain ranges from beginner-friendly sandy trails to challenging slickrock climbs. Mad Moose Rentals and other local outfitters provide UTV and ATV rentals for visitors who want the off-roading experience without bringing their own equipment. Day-use fee is $15 per vehicle for the reservoir or $10 for the OHV area. Camping is available at 50+ sites with full hookups right on the reservoir shore.
