Toquerville Falls — Southern Utah's Hidden Desert Waterfall

Toquerville Falls is one of Southern Utah's most spectacular hidden gems — a 200-foot cascading waterfall tucked into the red rock desert landscape near the small town of Toquerville, between St. George and Zion National Park. Fed by La Verkin Creek, the falls pour over layers of dark basalt lava rock into a series of pools, creating one of the most photographed and beloved swimming holes in all of Washington County.

Getting to Toquerville Falls

Reaching the falls requires an off-road drive along a rough dirt road (high-clearance vehicle strongly recommended, 4WD preferred) followed by a short hike. From the Toquerville exit off I-15, take the Toquerville Falls Road south for approximately 7 miles. The road varies in condition from easy gravel to rocky and rutted depending on recent weather. At the end of the road, a short but steep trail descends to the falls — approximately 0.5 miles with some scrambling over rocks. The total round-trip hike is about 1 mile. Note that the road and trail can be dangerous when wet or during flash flood conditions.

What to Expect

The falls area features multiple tiers and pools. In spring and early summer when water flow is highest, the main falls are a thundering spectacle. By late summer, flow may diminish to a trickle depending on snowpack and rainfall. The pools at the base are popular for swimming and cliff jumping (exercise extreme caution — check water depth before jumping). The surrounding red rock and black basalt landscape is stunning for photography at any time of year. Toquerville Falls is free to visit with no permits required. Bring water, sturdy shoes, sun protection, and pack out all trash. The falls are approximately 30 minutes from St. George, making them a perfect half-day adventure.
