Why It Matters

The building it replaces was about 60 years old. It was designed for 60 students in two programs, and SUU now runs 11 accredited music programs. The new center puts teaching, practice and performance under one roof, along with a commercial music suite for students headed into recording and production.

For the community, it's a new concert venue. Cedar City is already a theater town, with the Utah Shakespeare Festival and the Heritage Center Theater. The Okerlund Concert Hall gives it a mid-sized hall built for acoustic music: band, orchestra, choir and recitals.
