What is Wood Ash Rye in St. George?

Wood Ash Rye is a farm-to-table restaurant inside the Advenire hotel at 25 W St. George Blvd in downtown St. George, Utah. It serves breakfast and lunch daily and dinner every night, runs a cocktail bar built on Utah spirits, and hosts private events in a private dining room and on a rooftop terrace.

The restaurant styles its name as wood.ash.rye and opened with the Advenire, a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel, in early 2020. The kitchen describes its menu as seasonally driven and regionally sourced, with shareable plates meant to be passed around the table. The dinner menu is labeled a “social dining menu,” and most of it is built for sharing. The restaurant also says it has been voted Best Wine Selection in Southern Utah three years running. SGWOM has not verified that award independently.

Wood Ash Rye sits at the west end of the historic downtown blocks, a short walk from Ancestor Square, Town Square and the Main Street shops, which makes it easy to pair with an evening downtown. See our St. George restaurant guide for how it compares with Painted Pony, Cliffside and the rest of the city's sit-down restaurants.

Private events and catering at Wood Ash Rye

The Advenire hosts private events in two spaces: an indoor private dining room and an outdoor rooftop terrace. The hotel markets them for business meetings, group dinners, corporate events and intimate weddings, with customizable menus from the Wood Ash Rye kitchen, decor, and WiFi included.

  • Step 1: open the Advenire private events page and submit the Request a Proposal form with your date, guest count and the space you want.
  • Step 2: or call the events line at (435) 522-5022. This is a different number from the restaurant host stand.
  • Step 3: ask for the capacity chart. The hotel references one on its events page but does not publish numbers, so confirm the room fits your group before you book.
  • Bakery orders: the restaurant page also lists the in-house &Rye Bakery with an order form for bakery items and special orders.

What to know before you go

  • Dress: the restaurant does not post a dress code. Hotel guests come in from hiking and locals come in for date night, so smart casual fits in. You will not be out of place in nice jeans.
  • Best time to go: weekday breakfast and lunch are the easiest to walk into. Friday and Saturday dinner books up, so reserve on OpenTable. Sunday dinner ends at 9 p.m., an hour earlier than the weekend.
  • Dietary options: this is one of the friendlier menus in St. George for gluten-free diners. Nearly every dinner plate is marked gf, including the crab mac, and the breakfast hash, elote, rooted greens and tempura veggies cover vegetarian and vegan tables.
  • Ordering at dinner: treat the share plates as the main event. Two or three share plates plus one protein is plenty for two people.
  • Cocktails before 5: the bar opens at 10:30 a.m., so a cocktail with a late breakfast is on the table, and the bar is the place to wait if you arrive before the dinner service opens at 5.
  • Getting there: the Advenire is on the north side of St. George Boulevard at Main Street. From I-15, take Exit 8 (St. George Boulevard) and head west about a mile into downtown.
  • Make a night of it: Ancestor Square, George's Corner and Hive 435 are a block or two away. See our St. George date night ideas and the nightlife guide for what is nearby after dinner.
