Hive 435 Taphouse in Downtown St. George

Hive 435 Taphouse is a craft beer bar at 61 West St. George Boulevard, a block west of Ancestor Square in downtown St. George. The taphouse pours from more than 30 taps and pairs the beer with hand-crafted cocktails and a kitchen turning out gourmet pizza and sandwiches. Guests must be 21 or older with a valid ID.

Beer, Cocktails and Pizza

The draw is the tap list: more than 30 craft beers, with cocktails and sangria for anyone who would rather not drink beer. The food menu leans on artisan pizza, including a Buffalo Chicken pizza and a New York-style charred pepperoni, plus bruschetta boards where you pick three or four toppings, such as beet and brie. Orders can also be placed online through the taphouse's website.

Utah limits draft beer to 5% alcohol by volume, so stronger beers are served only in their original cans or bottles. That rule applies at every bar in the state.

Hours

According to the taphouse's own website, Hive 435 opens at 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and closes at 11 p.m.; opens at noon on Fridays and Saturdays and stays open until midnight; and runs from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. Weekend afternoons make it an easy stop after a morning hike, and the midnight close on Fridays and Saturdays is later than most St. George kitchens.

Downtown St. George's Bar District

Hive 435 sits in the most walkable part of the city. Ancestor Square, Main Street and St. George Boulevard hold most of St. George's bars within a few blocks of each other, alongside restaurants, the historic Tabernacle and the Electric Theater. A night out can move on foot between a brewpub, a cocktail lounge and a pub with live music. Utah's 0.05 blood alcohol limit for driving is the lowest in the country, so walking, rideshare or a downtown hotel room is the sensible plan.

The desert climate sets the rhythm. From October through April, comfortable evenings bring visitors in from Zion National Park, Snow Canyon State Park and the area's golf courses. In summer, highs regularly pass 100°F, and the crowd comes out after dark.

The 435 Area Code

The taphouse takes its name from 435, the area code that covers almost all of Utah outside the Wasatch Front, from St. George and Cedar City to Moab and Park City. Around Southern Utah, "435" works as shorthand for local, and a taproom on the city's main boulevard is a natural meeting point for residents of St. George, Washington, Santa Clara and Ivins as well as the visitors who fill downtown hotels during the busy spring and fall seasons.

Know Before You Go
