What are the best bars in St George, Utah?

The best-reviewed bars in St. George, Utah, include Hive 435 Taphouse for its 30-plus craft beer taps, Book Club Bistro for cocktails behind a hidden bookshelf, and Spiritual Speakeasy for the latest hours downtown. St. George Bars by Neighborhood

Where each bar sits, so you can plan a night without driving between stops.

Downtown St. George: Ancestor Square and St. George Boulevard

Most of the city’s bars sit within a few blocks of Ancestor Square, where Main Street meets St. George Boulevard. You can walk between all of them, so this is the place for a night that moves from dinner to cocktails to a band.

North Bluff Street and East of Downtown

Just outside the downtown core are two bars built for a longer night: a karaoke and bar-food spot on North Bluff Street and a dance hall with pool tables on 800 East.

Red Cliffs Drive

The shopping strip along Red Cliffs Drive, northeast of downtown, hides one cocktail spot worth a reservation.

South St. George

Two picks sit away from downtown on the south side of the city: a hometown brewery with a kitchen and a sports bar built around golf simulators.

Washington

Washington, just east of St. George along I-15, has one tavern with a busier weekly event calendar than most downtown bars.

Toward Zion and Cedar City

These aren’t in the St. George ranking, but they are worth knowing if you are staying near Zion National Park or in Cedar City. Springdale is about an hour from St. George, and Cedar City about 50 minutes up I-15.

Bar FAQs

What time do bars close in St. George, Utah?

Utah bars may serve alcohol from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., and most St. George bars close between 9 p.m. and midnight. The latest downtown are Spiritual Speakeasy, open until 2 a.m. with cocktail service ending at 1 a.m., and Station II Bar by Zion Brewery, open until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Restaurants stop serving liquor and wine at midnight.

Which bars in St. George have live music?

George’s Corner in Ancestor Square has live music several nights a week, usually with no cover. Koral Kafe in Washington has live music on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saints & Sinners on North Bluff Street books live bands. Toward Zion, Bourbon & Blues at Balcony One in Virgin has live music on weekends. For concerts, check the SGWOM events calendar.

Do you have to be 21 to go into a bar in St. George?

Yes. Utah bars and taverns are 21 and over, and minors cannot enter the licensed bar area. Families can still eat at restaurants that serve alcohol, and Crush Golf + Grill is open to all ages, with anyone under 16 accompanied by an adult.

Can you get strong beer on tap in St. George?

No. Utah caps draft beer at 5% alcohol by volume. Stronger “heavy beer” is served only in its original can or bottle, so brewpubs like Station II and Silver Reef Brewing pour their bigger beers that way.

Do you need a membership to get into a bar in Utah?

No. Utah’s private-club membership system ended on July 1, 2009, and anyone 21 or older can walk into a bar. Utah’s DUI limit is 0.05 BAC, the lowest in the country, so plan a ride. Downtown St. George is walkable, and rideshare covers the city.

Liquor rules are from the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services (residents and visitors, FAQ) and the Utah Highway Safety Office.
