Spiritual Speakeasy in Ancestor Square
Spiritual Speakeasy is a craft cocktail lounge in historic downtown St. George, at 2 West St. George Boulevard, Suite 5, in Ancestor Square. The bar describes its collection as one of the largest spirit libraries in Utah, with a deep selection from Park City distiller High West and allocated bottles such as Pappy Van Winkle. It also features local Utah wines and spirits.
The Menu
The cocktail list is built around house signatures such as the Jade Rabbit, Three Fates, Siren Song, Good Fortune, Golden Skull, Fortune Teller and Holy Grail, alongside classics like the Old Fashioned and Pornstar Martini. The menu also includes mocktails and low-ABV drinks, wine, beer and light bites such as a mini charcuterie board, so non-drinkers in a group have real options.
Late Hours and Weekend DJs
Spiritual Speakeasy opens at 5 p.m. every day and stays open until 2 a.m., with drinks served until 1 a.m., the cutoff Utah law sets for alcohol service. That makes it the latest-open bar in downtown St. George. Every Friday and Saturday, DJs Tino and Bacon play, with a $5 cover after 10 p.m.
Private Events and Classes
The lounge books private events, including bachelorette parties, birthdays and corporate gatherings, and offers VIP packages. It also runs a 90-minute cocktail masterclass for groups who want to learn to make drinks rather than only order them. Details and booking are on the bar's website.
A Night Out Downtown
Ancestor Square sits at the corner of Main Street and St. George Boulevard, at the heart of the city's small, walkable bar district. Within a few blocks are a brewpub, a taphouse, restaurant bars and a pub with live music, so a night can start with dinner and end at the speakeasy without a drive. Utah's 0.05 blood alcohol limit for driving is the lowest in the country, and rideshare covers the city, so leaving the car at the hotel is the easy choice.
St. George's desert climate shapes when people go out. Through the cooler months from October to April, evenings downtown are mild and busy with visitors who have spent the day in Zion National Park, Snow Canyon State Park or on the area's golf courses. In summer, when daytime highs regularly pass 100°F, the night starts later and air-conditioned lounges fill up after sunset.
Utah's alcohol rules surprise many visitors. Bars are 21 and over, there is no membership requirement (private clubs ended in 2009), and bottles of liquor and wine are sold only at state liquor stores, which close on Sundays. Bars and restaurants serve drinks seven days a week.
Cocktail Culture in Southern Utah
Southern Utah's bar scene has long leaned toward beer and casual pubs, so a dedicated cocktail lounge with a deep spirits collection stands out in St. George. Utah's own distilling industry has grown alongside it, with distillers in Park City, Salt Lake City and elsewhere in the state producing whiskey, gin and other spirits that now turn up on local menus. A lounge that features local Utah wines and spirits gives visitors a taste of that industry without leaving downtown.
