What to Expect at KJ's Ice Barn

KJ's Ice Barn is the indoor ice rink for Southern Utah. It is in Enoch, the small city just north of Cedar City, and it opened in the fall of 2024 after a build that St. George News followed from the ground up. The rink is named for Kerry Jo Fain, a longtime supporter of youth hockey in the area who died in January 2024, at 42, while the building was under construction; "KJ" is her initials, and the facility's affiliated nonprofit is Iron Ice, Inc. Before it opened, Iron County and Washington County skaters and hockey players had to drive to the Wasatch Front or Las Vegas for regular ice.

The barn runs the full mix of programs a community rink runs: public skate sessions, freestyle sessions for figure skaters, stick-and-puck and drop-in hockey, a Learn to Skate USA program, Learn to Hockey, youth hockey, high school teams, an adult league, a hockey development camp and summer camps. Private skating lessons can be booked online. There is a pro shop with skate sharpening, a gym with monthly memberships, and a pickleball court that can be rented. The ice calendar on kjsicebarn.org shows which session is on the ice at any given hour, which is the thing to check before you drive up, since public skate, hockey and freestyle do not run at the same time.

Public skate at KJ's Ice Barn costs $6 per person, and skate rental is $2, according to the rink's website in October 2026. Freestyle (figure skating) sessions are also $6, stick-and-puck is $10 for adults and $5 for youth, and skate sharpening is $10. Check the online calendar for public skate times before you go.

Hours and Location

Enoch is about 7 miles north of downtown Cedar City via Main Street and Minersville Highway, and about an hour and ten minutes north of St. George on I-15 (Exit 62 or 59, then east). Bring a jacket even in July: the rink is kept cold year-round, and the drive back down to St. George can be a 40-degree swing.
