How big is Sand Hollow Reservoir?

Sand Hollow Reservoir covers 1,322 acres with a maximum depth of 92 feet. It's one of Utah's most scenic and accessible reservoirs, known for its warm turquoise water and sandy beaches against red sandstone cliffs. The reservoir was created in 1986 by damming Sand Hollow Creek.

Can you swim at Sand Hollow?

Yes, swimming is one of the primary activities. Designated sandy beaches offer safe swimming with lifeguards during summer season. The water is warmest from June-September, reaching 80-85°F. Life jackets are recommended for children and non-swimmers.

How far from St. George?

Sand Hollow State Park is approximately 20 minutes northeast of downtown St. George via Highway 91. It's about 30 minutes from Hurricane and 45 minutes from Cedar City. The scenic drive includes views of the Mojave Desert and red rock formations.

Can you do ATV riding at Sand Hollow?

Yes. The Sand Mountain OHV area is directly adjacent to the state park with miles of sand dunes and desert trails. Bring your own ATV or rent from nearby outfitters in St. George. Helmets are required. The park itself prohibits motorized vehicles off designated roads, but OHV access is unrestricted in the adjacent BLM lands.
